Tapestry No. 1

for Clarinet Choir

Tapestry No. 1 is the first in a planned (plan in the loosest sense of the word) series of pieces for various homogenous ensembles.  This piece is based on the idea of layering simple lines of music to create a more complex image much like the process of weaving a tapestry.  The mood of the pieces is inspired by a quote from Faulkner's As I Lay Dying.

"How often I have lain on a strange roof, thinking of home."

This work is suitable for any undergraduate clarinet choir looking for a meditative journey to fill out a concert program. I wrote this piece in 2015 for the clarinet choir at the University of Miami. It calls for a minimum of 9 players, more specifically 6 Bb Clarinets, 2 Bass Clarinets, and 1 Contrabass Clarinet. Doubling of parts is acceptable and encouraged but a careful ear will need to be applied to the balance of the piece and the lower clarinets may need to be encouraged to play out if there is significant doubling of the Bb Clarinets.

Score and parts are delivered as a single pdf file formatted for printing on standard letter size paper
